HOW TO GET A REAL ESTATE LICENSE IN SOUTH CAROLINA

    Requirements: You must be 18 years or older and have a high school diploma or GED equivalent.

    Complete 90 hours of pre-licensing education

    You must complete a total of two courses in South Carolina. The first course is the 60-hour Unit I Salesperson Pre-Licensing course and the second is the 30-hour Unit II Advanced Real Estate Principles course. PREC offers both these courses at a discounted package rate that is completely online and completed at your own pace. Learn more about our course here. You need both courses to be issued a South Carolina Real Estate license, but you can take the second Unit II course before OR after you pass the state license exam.

    Complete the course final exam

    After you finish the course, you will need to take an online exam and pass with a minimum score of 80%. This course final will need to be proctored online.

    Complete the exam application

    This application must be filled out and submitted to the South Carolina Real Estate Commission for approval. Click here for more information.

    Submit the background check requirement

    You must submit your fingerprints to State Law Enforcement Division and the FBI for a criminal background check. For more information click here.

    Pass the South Carolina Real Estate Exam

    PSI Administers the in-person state licensing exam. There are 110 questions with two portions. 80 national questions and 30 state-specific questions will be on the exam. You will need a 70% or higher to pass this exam. Upon completion of this exam, you will get an application photo taken at the testing center.  Click here for our comprehensive Exam Prep Package.

    Choose a sponsoring brokerage

    You must be associated with brokerage registered in South Carolina to obtain a real estate license. Read on our blog here to find out how to pick the right brokerage for you.

    File your license application

    To apply for your South Carolina real estate license, contact the Labor & Licensing Regulation and complete your application online. They will list the documents you will need to provide.
