Frequently asked questions
What is the Tennessee broker post-licensing requirement?
The Tennessee Real Estate Commission (TREC) requires all new real estate brokers to complete 120 hours of post-licensing education within the first three years of receiving their broker's license. This education is mandatory to keep your license active and in good standing.
Is this the same as Continuing Education (CE)?
No. Broker post-licensing is a one-time requirement that is separate from your standard Continuing Education (CE). After you have completed your 120 hours, you will then be subject to the standard 16-hour continuing education requirement for each subsequent two-year renewal cycle.
What happens if I don't complete the 120 hours on time?
If you fail to complete your 120 hours of post-licensing education by the third anniversary of your license issuance, your license will be placed on inactive status. You will have an additional year to complete the hours, but you will also incur a $50 fee for each month your education is overdue. If the hours are not completed within four years, your license may be downgraded or you may be required to retest and re-apply for a broker license.
What topics are covered in the 120-hour post-licensing course?
The TREC-approved curriculum is designed to provide you with the advanced knowledge needed to succeed as a broker. It covers a wide range of topics, including:
- Real Estate Appraisal, Finance & Investment
- Brokerage Management (a mandatory 30-hour course)
- Business Planning
- Managing Legal Compliance and Risk
- Agent Supervision and Training
- Advanced Real Estate Law
- Fair Housing and Ethics
Is your course approved by the Tennessee Real Estate Commission (TREC)?
Yes, our Tennessee broker post-license course is fully approved by the Tennessee Real Estate Commission. We ensure our curriculum meets all state requirements so that your education counts towards your licensing obligation.
Can the Tennessee Broker Post-License Education be completed online?
Yes. Our 120-hour Tennessee broker post-license course is offered 100% online and is self-paced. This format allows you to study when and where it's most convenient for you, without the need for a physical classroom.
Do I have to take an exam at the end of the course?
Yes, you must pass a final exam for each course within the 120-hour requirement with a minimum score of 70%.
How does TREC know I completed my education?
We electronically report your course completions to TREC. This ensures that your education records are accurately updated with the state, allowing you to renew your license without any issues. While we handle the reporting, we recommend that you also keep a copy of your course completion certificates for your own records.
