The Lazy Girl’s Quick Guide to Buying a House

Here's how to buy a house

We know you are busy and sometimes you don’t want to talk on the phone with a real person to get the answers you need. That’s why I am simply writing out the steps that typically happen when going through the homebuying process. There’s not a lot of fluff or lengthy explanations but hopefully it’ll get your research started on the right foot.

The homebuying process typically involves the following steps:

    Step 1: Determine your budget

    • Before you start house hunting, it's important to figure out how much you can afford to spend on a house. This will help you narrow down your search and avoid falling in love with a home that's outside your budget.

    Step 2: Get pre-approved for a mortgage

    • Once you know your budget, you should get pre-approved for a mortgage. This involves providing your financial information to a lender who will then determine how much they are willing to lend you.

Step 3: Find a real estate agent

    • A real estate agent can help you find homes that fit your budget and criteria. They can also negotiate on your behalf and guide you through the buying process.

    Step 4: Start house hunting

    • Once you've found a real estate agent, you can start looking at homes that fit your budget and criteria. You'll want to schedule viewings and take note of features you like and dislike.

    Step 5: Make an offer

    • If you find a home you love, you'll need to make an offer. Your real estate agent can help you determine a fair price and negotiate with the seller.

Step 6: Get a home inspection

    • Before finalizing the purchase, you'll want to get a home inspection to ensure there are no major issues with the property.

    Step 7: Close the deal

    • If everything checks out, you can move forward with closing the deal. This involves signing contracts and transferring funds, and once it's done, you'll officially be a homeowner!

Remember, buying a home can feel like a rollercoaster of emotions. First, there's the excitement of looking at all the pretty houses online and imagining what life would be like in them. Then, there's the stress of figuring out how much you can actually afford and getting pre-approved for a mortgage. When you finally start house hunting, it's a mix of feeling hopeful and anxious - will you ever find the perfect place? And when you do find a house you love, there's that rush of adrenaline as you make an offer and cross your fingers that the seller accepts.

But it's not all rainbows and butterflies - you'll also have to deal with the nerve-wracking home inspection, which can uncover all sorts of problems you never even thought to consider. And let's not forget about the paperwork - it feels like you're signing your life away! But when all is said and done, and you're holding the keys to your very own house, it's the best feeling in the world. Like, you can finally say goodbye to your annoying landlord and decorate however you want! It's definitely a journey, but it's so worth it in the end.
