Juggling Coaching Your Son's Basketball Team While Working Full-Time

When I am not in the office, I am on the court coaching and I wouldn’t change a thing! Coaching youth sports while working full-time can be quite a balancing act, but it is also a rewarding experience that allows you to make a positive impact on the lives of young athletes. Here are a few tips to help you manage your time and be an effective coach:

    • Plan ahead: Make sure to plan your practice and game schedule well in advance. This will help you manage your time more effectively and ensure you can attend all of your coaching commitments. It will also help you communicate effectively with your team and parents.

    • Communicate effectively: Clear communication is key when coaching youth sports. Make sure to communicate your expectations and goals for the team to both the players and their parents. This will help to ensure that everyone is on the same page and working towards the same objectives.

    • Prioritize your time: As a full-time worker and coach, your time is limited. Prioritize your coaching responsibilities to ensure that you are focusing on the most important tasks. This might mean focusing on skill development in practice, rather than game strategy.

    • Be flexible: Be prepared to adjust as needed to accommodate your work schedule. Consider hosting practices or games at different times or on different days to accommodate your schedule.

    • Utilize your assistants: If you have assistant coaches, make sure to utilize them to the fullest extent possible. Delegating tasks and responsibilities can help to lighten your workload and allow you to focus on the most important aspects of coaching.

    • Make the most of your time with the team: When you are with the team, make sure to make the most of your time. Be fully present, engaged, and focused on the task at hand. It will help the team to see that you are dedicated and committed to them.

    • Take care of yourself: Coaching youth sports and working full-time can be demanding, so make sure to take care of yourself. Get enough rest, exercise, and make sure to take time for yourself.

By planning ahead, communicating effectively, prioritizing your time, being flexible, utilizing your assistants, making the most of your time with the team and taking care of yourself, you can effectively coach youth sports while working full-time. Remember that it's not about being perfect, it's about doing the best you can with the time you have. Need More time to dive into your coaching, think about a career in Real Estate.
