HOW TO GET A real estate LICENSE in Texas
Enroll in our online Texas real estate license course & satisfy all of the educational requirements to obtain a Texas real estate license. You must be 18 years or older and have a high school diploma or GED equivalent and complete the steps below:

Complete 180 hours of pre-licensing education

Complete the course final exams
Texas requires that each 30-hour qualifying education course has a course final exam. After you finish each course, you will need to take an online exam and pass with a minimum score of 70%.

Submit your license application
This application must be filled out and submitted to the Texas Real Estate Commission for approval. Complete the licensing process by submitting your licensing exam results to the Commission along with the license fee of $205.00.

Complete a fingerprint background check
After you are approved to take the licensing exam, you will be required to answer a background check with your licensing application. The Commission will send instructions on how to complete the fingerprint background check.

Pass the Texas Real Estate Licensing Exam
PearsonVue administers the in-person state licensing exam. There are 125 questions based on the content outline here. You will have 4 hours to complete the exam.

Get Affiliated with a Broker and start selling real estate!
Your initial application will be inactive until you affiliate with a broker. You can complete a sponsorship request using the Commission website or by submitting a sponsorship form. After your sponsorship has been approved, you can start selling real estate!

Is Post-License education required in Texas?
Yes. For your first renewal (you must renewal every two years) as a sales agent, you must have completed 270 hours of real estate education. An additional 90 hours of education as they count your pre-license eduation as a part of the 270 hours.
