How to Write a Business Plan: 3 Easy Steps For New Agents

How to Write a Business Plan: 3 Easy Steps for New Agents

You’re licensed and the biggest broker in town just called you to welcome you aboard. You’re excited about this new endeavor and decide you need a new suit and some fancy pens. Then the fear sets in and you ask yourself, “Now what!?” Let this 3-step plan prompt those creative juices to give your new journey a bit of needed structure.

3 steps to begin your new business plan:

  • Write down your goals. Some agents like to articulate this as a mission statement of sorts as well as a monetary goal. For instance, “I will sell at least 10 homes in the next 12 months. I will help families find their dream homes. In doing so, I will make $75,000 in gross commissions.” Decide on a goal that works for you and your circumstances. If you still work at your full-time job and are only doing real estate 10 hours/week, make sure you account for the potential outcome of your goal to be in line with what your contribution of time and effort will be.
  • Next give yourself a marketing goal. It doesn’t have to be elaborate. Many agents choose to farm a certain area or to call everyone in their sphere of influence. They may send out post cards, flyers or launch a social media campaign. Whichever means you choose the end to said means are to meet your goal by following the guide you have written for yourself. Let it be a roadmap on your journey to success.
  • Last but not least, the numbers.  You gave yourself an income goal. Now you must outline what will go into making that goal come to fruition. How many open houses will you host each weekend? How many calls will you make? How many new buyers will you reach? How many listing appointments will you schedule? Perhaps every Monday you will create a new real estate post on social media. Tuesday you could host a virtual first-time home buyer’s seminar on Zoom. The options are endless.

Plan your work and work your plan. A successful real estate career truly is the product of what you’re willing to contribute. You will reap what your sow if you stay the course and your first course starts with Perry Real Estate College.
