Home Projects You Should Consider

Popular social media platforms including, Instagram Reels and TikTok, have created a new level of intimacy between users. Sharing personal details of your life with the world has been normalized by people of all ages and backgrounds. We are now seeing parts of people's lives that we didn’t see before. For example, the interior of their homes. We are frequently being exposed to our peer's personal spaces, how they decorate, how they store things, and how they improve their homes. This has introduced a new excitement around home improvement. Why? Because it seems more achievable and affordable than ever before. But is it really worth the hype? Let’s find out by exploring value-adding home improvement projects. 

Home Improvement Ideas

Here are some examples of projects that you could do to improve the value of your home. 

  • Upgrading the kitchen:  The kitchen is often considered the heart of the home, and a modern and functional kitchen can greatly increase a home's value. Upgrades can include new appliances, countertops, cabinets, and flooring.
  • Bathroom remodels:  Similar to the kitchen, a bathroom remodel can add value to the home. Upgrades can include new fixtures, flooring, and lighting.
  • Adding additional living space: Adding a new room, converting a basement or attic into living space, or building an addition onto the home can all increase a home's value,
  • Energy-efficient upgrades: Upgrading the home's insulation, windows, and heating and cooling systems can improve energy efficiency and save money on utility bills, which can be attractive to potential buyers.
  • Curb appeal: The exterior of the home is the first thing potential buyers see, so investing in landscaping, exterior painting, and other cosmetic upgrades can increase the home's value.
  • Upgrading flooring:  Replacing old, worn-out flooring with new, modern materials can greatly enhance the look and feel of a home and increase its value.

        VARIOUS PROJECT COSTS

        Great, now we know which projects are contributing to our home value, but what do these projects cost? Let’s talk numbers. Here are some common home improvement projects along with their average cost estimates:

        • Kitchen renovation: This can range from a minor update (such as new paint, cabinet hardware, and a new sink) for around $5,000, to a major overhaul (including new cabinets, countertops, appliances, and flooring) for $50,000 or more.
        • Bathroom renovation: A minor bathroom update (including new fixtures and a fresh coat of paint) can cost around $3,000 to $7,000. A more extensive renovation (including new tile, a new vanity, and a new shower or tub) can cost around $10,000 to $25,000.
        • Roof replacement: The cost of a new roof depends on the size of your home, the materials used, and the location. The average cost of a new roof is around $7,500 to $12,000.
        • Deck or patio addition: A basic deck or patio can cost around $1,500 to $5,000, while a more elaborate one with features like built-in seating, a fire pit, or a covered area can cost $10,000 or more.
        • Window replacement: The cost of window replacement varies depending on the number of windows being replaced, the size of the windows, and the type of windows being installed. The average cost of a window replacement project is around $500 to $1,000 per window.
        • Basement finishing: Finishing a basement can create valuable living space and increase the value of your home. The cost of a basement finishing project can range from around $10,000 to $50,000 or more, depending on the size of the space and the features being added.
        • HVAC system replacement: Replacing an old heating and cooling system can cost around $6,000 to $12,000, depending on the size of your home and the type of system being installed.

        These are just some examples of home improvement projects and their estimated costs. The actual cost of each project will depend on factors such as the size and complexity of the project, the materials used, and the location of your home. 

        Well, folks, at the end of the day, your home is your castle, and you get to decide what to do with it. Whether you want to paint the walls neon pink or turn the backyard into a mini-golf course, it's entirely up to you. After all, you're the one who has to live in it, so why not make it a place that brings you joy and puts a smile on your face? 

        Life can be stressful, and sometimes we just need a little bit of fun and excitement to keep us going. So why not inject some of that into your home? Whether you're a DIY fanatic or just like to experiment with new decor ideas, there's no reason why you can't have a little fun with your living space.
