Ohio Division of Real Estate Explained

The Ohio Division of Real Estate is a statewide agency for licensing and regulating real estate professionals. It also oversees continuing education and license renewal. It is also responsible for registering out-of-state real estate developments that are marketed in Ohio. It investigates complaints of misconduct and can discipline licensees. The Division of the State Board of Real Property administers licensing exams for various occupational roles.

The Ohio Division of Real Estate is the regulatory body for real estate licenses in the state. It licenses real estate brokers, salespersons, appraisers, and foreign real estate dealers. The agency also operates examinations for real estate salespeople. PSI is a private testing company that administers the examinations. The State of the Ohio and PSI work together to ensure the examinations are accurate, relevant, and appropriate for local licensing requirements.

To obtain a license in Ohio, you must first pass the licensing exam. In Ohio, a licensee must obtain the consent of the owner before he or she can sell the property. A land contract buyer or a lessee exercising his or her option will not meet the requirements for a license.
